ACRP’s second Chapter in India was inaugurated at a ceremony in Bangalore on 17th December 2007. The chief guests of the function were Dr. John L. LaMattina of Pfizer Inc. and Smt. Usha Ganesh, Additional chief secretary, Government of Karnataka, The invitees included representatives of the pharmaceutical industry. The Chapter is located in the Bangalore Diabetes Hospital and administered by the Bilcare Research Academy. The Southern Indian city of Bangalore is considered an educational hub playing host to probably the largest number of medical institutions and colleges offering life science courses at the graduate and post-graduate level in the country. In addition to enjoying the sobriquet “Silicon Valley” of India, Bangalore in recent times has also spearheaded the Biotechnology boom in the country. Undoubtedly the city has immense intellectual capacity. Furthermore, Bangalore is also referred to as the Clinical Research organizations (CRO) capital of India. Almost every major CRO player such as Quintiles, Icon, and Pharmanet etc are headquartered out of Bangalore in India. It is no surprise then that the Bangalore ACRP chapter has been flooded with requests from industry professionals keen to receive ACRP membership. Additionally, several corporations have come forward to sponsor chapter activities. With the clinical research industry in India still being in its infancy, there is a keen interest amongst all clinical research professionals to have a common platform to share ideas, address issues and develop plans to drive the industry forward.  The ACRP chapter in Bangalore will serve as a forum for these activities.

The Chapter activities were initiated with the conduct of ACRP certification exams on the 8th March 2008. A total of 12 professionals appeared for the exam at the Bangalore center of which 6 undertook the CCRA exam, 5 the CCRC exam and 1 person appeared for the CPI exam
