The Association of Clinical Research Professionals (ACRP) is mourning the passing from cancer on October 23 of Christine Pierre, RN, founder and president of the Society for Clinical Research Sites (SCRS) and a former chair of the Association Board of Trustees (ABoT) and volunteer in other capacities for ACRP.
An industry leader in the study site arena, Pierre was president and CEO of RxTrials, Inc., based in Ellicott City, Md., when she assumed the position of chair of ACRP’s ABoT for 2007. She had earlier served as a volunteer with the association’s Communications and Ethics and Regulatory Committees, and with its Global Conference Planning Committee. She also cofounded the Maryland and Washington, D.C. Chapters of ACRP and had served as president of both.
Pierre founded SCRS in 2012, having earlier conceptualized the first Global Site Solutions Summit in 2006. With the summits continuing to this day, she was also widely active as a speaker and author on clinical trials topics, and was founder of ForeSite Publishing, Inc. She earned her RN from Prince George’s College in 1987 and served as Assistant Director for Clinical Research – Critical Care at Washington Hospital Center from 1990 to 1996.
A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, October 29, at Our Lady of the Fields in Millersville, Md. Visitation with the family will take place from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. on Sunday, October 28, at Beall Funeral Home in Bowie, Md., and from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. on Monday October 29, at Our Lady of the Fields. In lieu of flowers, gifts are invited in Pierre’s memory to support the ongoing ocular melanoma research of Dr. Geoff Gibney at the Lombardi Comprehensive Cancer Center.
