Merck, known as MSD outside the United States and Canada, is the recipient of the Association of Clinical Research Professionals (ACRP) 2020 Innovation in Workforce Development Award.
The annual award is the first in clinical research to recognize an organization exemplifying the spirit of creativity and innovation through adaptation, improvement, or development of new processes or tools that result in improvement in workforce development quality.
“Congratulations to Merck for its dedication to innovation in workforce development,” says ACRP Executive Director Jim Kremidas. “We were overwhelmed by the number of submissions for this year’s award, and even more impressed by the quality of initiatives being undertaken across our profession to improve workforce development. In clinical research, people are everything; we are thrilled to see our profession rally around our greatest asset.”
Merck was recognized for its innovative program leveraging volunteer hours that allow Merck staff to educate students about the field of clinical research, as well as its integrated intern-to-hire program.
“We are excited and proud to spread the word about the field of clinical research and to create opportunities for interns and recent graduates to develop their careers and advance Merck’s mission,” said Michelle Metry, executive director, Clinical Research at Merck. “Through forums such as ACRP we hope to increase awareness of clinical research, the industry and ultimately benefit the patients we serve.”
Merck won the 2020 Innovation in Workforce Development Award among a field of finalists that also included Wilmington, NC-based FuseCR and Medical University of South Carolina.
Merck was selected as this year’s winner by ACRP’s Partners in Workforce Advancement Executive Steering Council following presentations from all finalists during a live online event hosted by ACRP on November 10.
