With high-tech enhancements bringing ever-greater precision and cold logic to the design and conduct of clinical trials, the spirits at work in contributions to the February issue caution us that “Precision Cuts Both Ways,” and urge us to remember that our doggedly efficient and high-stakes pursuit of breakthrough therapies should not come at the cost of losing our capacity for practicing self-reflection, cultural humility, empathy, and other warm, human qualities as we collaborate with study participants.
