ACRP Budget Virtual Workshop Series: Real-World Budgeting Tactics for Keeping Your Clinical Studies on Track (Three Parts)

The three-part workshop will explore the pre-award activities associated with clinical research site expense management and their impact on the budget development process for sponsored clinical studies.

This workshop addresses regulations impacting budgets of clinical research studies and melds them with best practice operational approaches to provide attendees with specific approaches to budget development and negotiation techniques. The use of case studies enables attendees to practice the budgetary and negotiation concept(s) discussed during the workshop and will serve to reinforce the learning experiences. The sessions will cover:
Overview of clinical research finance and MCA processes
Budget development process
Budget negotiation process
After attending this series, attendees will be able to:
Understand the clinical research revenue cycle
Understand the impact of inpatients stays on a clinical trial budget and the patient
Identify hidden costs associated with clinical trial budgets
Develop and negotiate accurate clinical trial budgets that reflect the specific requirements of the clinical trial

Mary Veazie, MBA, CPA

Mary Veazie serves as the Director of Clinical Research Finance at the Houston Methodist Research Institute (HMRI), where she holds responsibility for managing the financial aspects of HMRI’s clinical research initiatives. In addition to her role at HMRI, she is the Principal/Owner of Clinical Research Consulting & Education Services, LLC, a firm that offers an extensive array of clinical research financial services. Mary is a Certified Public Accountant (CPA) with over a decade of auditing experience, coupled with more than two decades of involvement in research at a prominent academic medical center.
During her distinguished career, Ms. Veazie held the position of Executive Director of Clinical Research Finance at The University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center, an office she established to support the institution’s extensive clinical research endeavors, which annually generated approximately $4 billion in gross patient care revenue. She successfully led this organization’s clinical research billing program. She is also an accomplished author who enjoys sharing her extensive knowledge with others.
