Doing More with Less: Alternative Funding and Resourcing Strategies for Future Success

As federal research dollars shrink and competition for industry studies grows, clinical research leaders are being challenged to “do more with less” when it comes to staffing and funding.

This session dove into alternative resourcing models and funding strategies designed to stretch limited resources without sacrificing quality or compliance. Experts highlighted opportunities for sites and sponsors to collaborate on centralized qualification, creative contracting approaches, and shared training and infrastructure support. We also examined evolving trends in public versus industry funding and discussed how sites could position themselves to build stronger pipelines. Attendees walked away with practical ideas for balancing lean resources with growing expectations in today’s clinical research environment.

Upon completion of this continuing education program, participants should be able to:

  • Explore innovative staffing and resourcing models—including sponsor and CRO partnerships, shared services, and centralized qualification—that improve flexibility and efficiency.
  • Compare public versus industry funding structures, including differences in indirect cost rates, and identify opportunities to diversify and sustain site funding portfolios.
  • Learn practical strategies for overcoming recruitment and pipeline challenges, while leveraging institutional strengths and collaborative approaches to secure studies and funding.
