The Association of Clinical Research Professionals (ACRP) today announces the 2023 ACRP Clinical Research Leadership Scholarship winners.
As part of its commitment to clinical research workforce development, the ACRP Partners in Workforce Advancement collaborative developed a new scholarship program to support clinical researchers on their pathway toward a master’s degree in clinical research.
The scholarship provides three clinical research master’s degree students with attendance to ACRP’s 2023 annual conference in Dallas, Texas, April 28-May 1. These scholarships, estimated at a $2,500 each, will provide a unique opportunity for students to engage with learners and leaders in clinical research by participating in the premier education and networking event for clinical research professionals.
Jennifer McCarthy, BS, EMT-P, CCRC, Clinical Research Coordinator-II/Clinical and Basic Science Research Compliance Lead, Washington University School of Medicine
Jennifer began her research career in 2017 after spending almost 20 years in Emergency Medical Services (EMS) as a Critical Care Paramedic and Crew Leader in Greater St. Louis, MO area. At the Washington University School of Medicine, Jennifer fulfilled a lifelong professional goal of working on pre-hospital research projects to help advance and shape the future of pre-hospital medicine.
Joshua J. Cook, BS, Clinical Research Management, Wake Forest University; Data Science, University of West Florida
Joshua developed a strong passion for bench to bedside research and aims to synthesize his knowledge of the biomedical sciences, clinical research, and data science to become a physician-scientist capable of seamlessly integrating clinical care with clinical research in a way that maximizes evidence-based patient care. Joshua plans to apply to dual doctoral (MD/PhD) programs after finishing his two master’s degrees.
Sushmita Ramaswamy, MS, Clinical Research Management, Arizona State University
Sushmita is an experienced project manager who has worked at the intersection of healthcare, technology, and clinical research. She recently earned an MS in Clinical Research Management from Arizona State University, where she graduated with distinction and was nominated as an outstanding student in her program. She also holds an MBA from the University of Miami.
The ACRP Clinical Research Leadership Scholarship was created in honor of Jim Kremidas, ACRP executive director from 2014 to 2021.
“ACRP is a passionate advocate for clinical research professionals, starting with providing access and advancement through education for those who are choosing the profession as a career,” says Susan Landis, ACRP Executive Director. “We are excited that this year we can provide funding in support of students seeking a master’s in clinical research and honored to recognize Jim for his contribution to initiating the critical discussion about workforce development.”
