As a clinical research professional, you are constantly focused on the protocols and patients that are part of your everyday work. Compliance can feel like a mild distraction at best, or a mass of red tape that slows forward progress. You know it’s important to adhere to regulations that protect your own interests as well as those of your participants, so you slog through it. But isn’t there a way to streamline the process and bring the two worlds together?
Health Care Compliance Association® (HCCA®) was established to do just that. Founded in 1996, HCCA is a member-based association specifically for healthcare professionals. With more than 12,000 members and serving thousands more practitioners around the country, HCCA is dedicated to enabling the lasting success and integrity of those working in, working with, or supporting healthcare organizations.
What does this mean? It means HCCA is here to support, educate, and connect you with the tools and resources you need to make compliance a seamless part of your work, rather than an added burden. As a nationally recognized association, HCCA is the authority on healthcare compliance and ethics, so you don’t have to be. HCCA’s mission is to champion compliance and ethics while providing education on regulatory and healthcare compliance issues.
Do you know the seven elements of an effective compliance program? Are you well positioned for risk management and governance? The more you know about compliance fundamentals, the more compliance becomes a foundation rather than a barrier. And with a solid foundation, you can make forward progress with confidence.
ACRP member and HCCA board member Kelly M. Willenberg connects the dots better than anyone:
“As a member of both organizations, the intersection of my clinical research profession with compliance is clear. The need for knowledge in areas such as HIPAA and False Claims Act as examples, is strengthened by being part of HCCA. The network that I have in compliance is strong and HCCA has provided that through mentoring, training, and membership benefits.”
-Kelly M. Willenberg, DBA, RN, CHRC, CHC
Few industries have a need to understand the world of compliance more than clinical research. With patient privacy and security oversight, human research protections, U.S. Food and Drug Administration regulations, Good Clinical Practice recommendations, and scientific integrity concerns, there is a lot that clinical researchers need to know to stay compliant and run an ethical program.
The nature of compliance can be complicated and layered, but with the right support and education, it becomes manageable and even second nature. HCCA has hosted its annual Compliance Institute (CI) for more than 25 years with the goal of providing the support and knowledge that is so critical to success.
To see how the compliance connection can make your day-to-day work easier, HCCA invites you to join us for our 27th Annual Compliance Institute this April to connect with other healthcare professionals and enhance your knowledge of healthcare compliance issues and best practices.
The 27th Annual Compliance Institute offers two conference experiences to choose from. Participants can attend a four-day, in-person experience April 23–26 in Anaheim, Calif. or a three-day, virtual option held April 24–26. When you join us in Anaheim, you will have access to 121 educational sessions from 14 different subject tracks; enjoy face-to-face networking and engagement with other attendees, speakers, and solution providers; have the chance to participate in a local volunteer project, a SpeedNetworking activity, and evening receptions; and take an optional Compliance Certification Board (CCB)® certification exam on the last day of the conference.
Those who participate in the virtual conference format will have access to 63 educational sessions from 12 different subject tracks live streamed from Anaheim, the chance to interact with speakers and other session attendees via our robust virtual platform, the ability to participate in session polling and take notes that will be e-mailed post-conference, opportunities to network virtually with both in-person and virtual attendees, and the contact information necessary to reach out virtually to conference solution providers and sponsors.
All attendees can earn CCB continuing education units (CEUs) as well as get 60-day access to all session recordings post-conference.
The conference agenda includes sessions organized by knowledge levels—basic, intermediate, and advanced—which means there is something for everyone, whether you are an experienced compliance practitioner or just beginning to learn about compliance best practices and issues. Sessions are led by industry leaders and will cover a wide range of topics within the following subject tracks:
- Auditing and monitoring
- Behavioral health
- Case studies
- Compliance law
- General compliance/hot topics
- How to succeed as a compliance officer
- Discussion group (in-person only)
- Investigations
- Managed care (in-person only)
- Physician compliance
- Post-acute care
- Privacy and security
- Risk management
- Telehealth
In addition to the educational opportunities offered at CI, the conference gives attendees the chance to expand their networks and make professional connections with other healthcare practitioners in a variety of industries and roles. With more than 1,600 participants expected in Anaheim, and more than 1,000 expected to join us on the virtual platform, CI is HCCA’s largest networking and educational event of the year—and an excellent chance for attendees to connect with other healthcare professionals.
We invite you to learn more about HCCA and join us at our flagship event, the 27th Annual Compliance Institute, in April.
